Working with animation and digital art is all very well but I really feel the desire to get back to traditional materials from time to time.

Although mostly self-taught, I learnt using a technique taught in many of the academic drawing schools, created by Charles Bargue. His approach is a wonderful systematic approach to breaking down the subject into larger elements and then focusing in on the detail later. It was a revelation to me and it’s a very effective technique for understanding what you’re looking at and how to construct that 3D image in 2D, on paper.
I’ve followed the work and approach of Stephen Bauman, a wonderful portrait artist and a great teacher. Highly recommended for anybody interested in portraiture.
