It’s always an honour to be commissioned to paint or draw a portrait. I used graphite for this one as I felt that the softer tones worked better with the subject, rather than the much darker charcoal.
This was a really challenging commission because the only photo I had, was really poor quality with flat lighting. If I zoomed into the image, all detail was lost and there was no shadow on the features to help define the bone structure. Essentially, I had to be really subtly….and not go wrong.
